Thirteen principles that guide every decision we make — from how we pay our people to how we grow as a community. There is no gap between what we say and what we do.

These thirteen principles guide every decision we make. They apply equally to how we operate internally and what we tell you, our customers. They govern how we pay our Vital Neighbors, how we source our milk, how we grow — and how we stop growing when growing would compromise what we are.

We put them here because you deserve to know them. And because we want to be held to them.

We create the conditions for good things to happen.

We don't force community, loyalty, or growth. We create the conditions in which those things naturally form — through consistent quality, genuine care, and the presence of a real person at the door — and we let them emerge at their own pace. The pace of modern life has changed how we eat and how we feel. Vital Yogurts is one small, daily return to something simpler. One jar, one neighbor, one quiet moment at a time.

We build slowly, with attention.

We build the way good fermentation works: slowly, at the right temperature, without shortcuts. What we make cannot be rushed and remain what it is.

Every jar is in our care.

From kitchen to table. From the moment a jar leaves our kitchen until it reaches your door, it is our responsibility. Cleanliness, temperature, and timely arrival are how we honor what we have been given — the milk, the cultures, your trust. A Vital Neighbor is not a courier. They are the last custodian of something made with attention.

Small things done well matter most.

We value thoroughness over speed, reliability over rapid growth, and real presence over scale. The program will succeed or fail on small things, not grand gestures — how a jar is handed over, whether a name is remembered, whether the temperature in the cooler was right. No individual small thing determines the outcome. The aggregate of them does.

We pay people fairly — and we'll tell you what that means.

We take care of our Vital Neighbors by paying them a real wage for real work. We take care of our dairy producers by paying them well above what most farmers receive for raw milk. We take care of our kitchen teams by compensating them as the valued members of this circle they are. Fair pay isn't charity — it's how we build strong communities. If you ever want to know what we pay or how we split it, just ask. We'll tell you.

We circulate, we don't extract.

What the business earns largely stays within the circle — invested back into the people, places, and practices that make Vital Yogurts possible. We grow together, or we don't grow at all. Most of what the business makes is reinvested in new kitchens, new infrastructure, and over time, more Vital Neighbor roles. The owner doesn't need to make millions — just enough to live. We serve our neighbors, not ourselves.

We're here to serve our neighbors — which is why we don't accept tips. Your gratitude matters more than money to us. Every decision in this company should be evaluated by whether it serves the customer, the Vital Neighbor, the kitchen, and the dairy producers — not by whether it's most convenient for us. If Vital Yogurts has made a difference in your life, tell someone. That's the kind of thanks that helps us grow the right way.

Relationships over transactions.

Every interaction is the beginning of a relationship, not a transaction. We treat every customer as a long-term member of this circle. A rushed delivery, a forgotten name, a missed greeting — these are not small failures. They are active reductions of something we are trying to build. The opposite is equally true: a thoughtful greeting, a remembered detail, a small unexpected gesture builds something that compounds over time.

We grow at the pace our values allow.

If moving faster would compromise quality, fairness, or relationships, we slow down. We'd rather be small and excellent than large and compromised. We will not hire a Vital Neighbor before there is enough volume to make the role meaningful. We will not open a new kitchen before we can open it with the same care as the first. Growth is a consequence of doing the work well — not a goal we optimize for.

We speak plainly.

About how we work, how we pay, what we get right, and what we get wrong. If a jar went bad, we say so. If we're running late, we say so. If we don't know, we say so. Plain speech builds trust that clever words never can. We do not use marketing language, and we do not hide behind policy. You will always know what you are getting and why.

What goes in the jar is what makes Vital Yogurts.

Ingredient quality, careful fermentation, and an unbroken cold chain from our kitchen to your table — these are the foundation everything else rests on. No added sugars. No artificial flavors. No shortcuts. The product is the culture, the milk, and the time we gave it. Everything else is how we protect that.

Our Vital Neighbors carry more than jars.

They carry relationships — built through consistent presence, week after week, to the same doorsteps. They are members of this circle who happen to make deliveries. The Vital Neighbor role is not a gig. It is a position of trust, compensated fairly, supported carefully, and held to the same standards we hold everything else in this company to.

This belongs to all of us.

Dairy producers, kitchen teams, Vital Neighbors, customers — all of us are stewards of what Vital Yogurts means. These principles are how we keep that meaning alive, together. This is not Michael's company in the sense that he can do with it whatever he wants. It belongs to the people who make it, the people who deliver it, and the people who eat it. We are all responsible for what it becomes.
