Choosing Your Culture
Choosing your
culture.
Not dessert. Daily wellness.
Eleven cultures. One that belongs in your daily life. Here is how to find it.
Start with your priority,
not the product list.
The worst way to choose a culture is to read through eleven product pages and try to decide which sounds best. The right way is to identify the area of daily wellness that matters most to you right now — and let that determine the culture.
Each section below names a priority — something a real person might recognize as a daily concern — and maps it to the culture or cultures with the strongest published evidence for that area. The science pages go deeper on any of them. This page helps you find the right door.
What matters most
to you right now?
My digestion is uncomfortable, unpredictable, or just not right.
Ranked first for improving global digestive comfort in a network meta-analysis of 29 RCTs. Spore-forming — survives stomach acid intact and arrives fully viable.
Read the science →Small intestinal colonization and metabolic signaling. Supports digestive harmony and satiety. Add after Glacier is established if digestive issues persist.
Read the science →Start with Glacier. It has the strongest single-culture evidence for digestive comfort across the widest range of gut presentations.
I carry stress through the day and it affects how I sleep and feel.
The most researched psychobiotic combination in the world. Reduced anxiety, depression, and cortisol scores in human RCTs. If stress response is your primary concern, this is the strongest evidence base.
Read the science →Oxytocin production via the vagus nerve. Emotional balance, restful sleep, gut barrier integrity. A more foundational effect — pairs well with Sedona for people carrying both stress and gut issues.
Read the science →Sedona for acute stress response. Acadia for the nervous system foundation beneath it. Many people use both.
I get sick too often, or I want to be more resilient going into winter.
Natural killer cell activation, respiratory mucosal IgA stimulation, both innate and adaptive immunity engaged simultaneously. Documented reduction in respiratory illness duration in elderly RCT.
Read the science →Regulatory T-cell development and IL-10 production — the immune tolerance foundation. Systemic anti-inflammatory effects documented across IBS, psoriasis, and CFS/ME simultaneously.
Read the science →Monterey activates the immune response. Shenandoah educates and calibrates it. Together they cover both arms of immune support.
I train consistently and want better recovery, or my energy is inconsistent through the day.
Produces superoxide dismutase and catalase — the body's own antioxidant enzymes. Elite cyclist trial: half the respiratory illness days versus placebo. Oxidative stress reduction through the portal vein to the liver.
Read the science →B. coagulans's NF-kB inhibition reduces post-exercise inflammation directly. Pairs naturally with Catalina's oxidative stress reduction for complete training recovery support.
Read the science →Catalina reduces the oxidative cost of training. Glacier reduces the inflammatory response. Most people who train hard use both.
I am over 40 and thinking about long-term bone density and arterial health.
Produces Vitamin K2 as MK-7 — 72-hour half-life, activates osteocalcin for bone mineralization and Matrix Gla Protein to prevent arterial calcification. The Rotterdam Study: dietary MK-7 intake inversely associated with coronary heart disease mortality.
Read the science →Six independent murine models document L. reuteri's bone-protective effects through osteoblast stimulation — a complementary mechanism to Cascade's K2-mediated bone mineralization.
Read the science →Cascade is the primary culture for this priority. If you take calcium supplements, Cascade's K2 is the routing mechanism that determines where that calcium actually goes.
I want a culture that supports everything — the daily baseline, no specific priority.
The most extensively studied probiotic organism in history. Lactase production, bile salt hydrolase, bacteriocin production, secretory IgA induction, gut barrier support. The foundational daily culture — does a little of everything well.
Read the science →If you want coverage rather than specificity, The Vital Four is the structured way to experience four complementary cultures over thirty days and discover which effects matter most to you personally.
Learn more →Hudson Valley for a single foundational culture. The Vital Four if you want to explore before committing to one.
I want to support my intimate microbiome as part of my daily wellness practice.
Big Sur is specifically intended for this purpose. Pair with Hudson Valley as a foundational daily culture alongside it.
A few things worth saying
plainly.
If you start with three cultures simultaneously, you will not know what is producing what effect. One culture at a time gives you a clear picture of what it contributes. Add a second after that. The Pairing & Combining page is for people who are ready for that step.
Cascade's K2 production, Catalina's oxidized LDL reduction, Monterey's NK cell maintenance — none of these produce a felt experience. They show in blood panels over months. If you choose a culture for a silent long-term benefit, do not expect to feel it working. That is not how it works.
Vital fermented milks are conventional food products. Nothing on this page or any other Vital page is a claim to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. If you have a diagnosed condition, talk to your doctor before changing your diet significantly. We are fermented dairy. We are not medicine.
