What is Vital Yogurts, exactly?
Vital makes live fermented milks and yogurts. All of our products are thick, creamy, and spoonable — not thin or drinkable. Every product is made locally and delivered locally by a Vital Neighbor who lives in your community. The difference between products is the culture used, the fresh milk blend, and the culture concentration — not the format.
Live cultures are the living probiotic organisms still active in the jar when you eat it. They matter for two reasons: the live organisms themselves colonize the gut and do their work, and the compounds they produce during fermentation — vitamins, organic acids, bioactive peptides — arrive in the jar with them. Most commercial yogurt is heat-treated after fermentation to extend shelf life, which kills the cultures. Vital products are never heat-treated — every jar contains living cultures at peak density, along with everything they made during fermentation.
All three are thick, creamy, and spoonable. The difference is in the fresh milk blend and culture inoculation — both increase with each tier.
Valley is a creamy fresh milk blend with a single culture inoculation. Clean, mild, and versatile. The everyday classic. Start here.
Reserve is a creamier fresh milk blend with twice the culture inoculation from the start. Richer texture, more complex flavor. More of everything that makes it worth the daily habit.
Summit is our creamiest fresh milk blend — triple the culture inoculation, cold-strained for maximum density. The richest, most potent jar. The practice at its fullest.
Start with Valley. Move up when you're ready.
Multi-culture blends are common in the probiotic supplement industry because they are easy to market. They are not necessarily better for the consumer. Different cultures compete for the same gut real estate — when you consume ten at once, none colonize effectively, and you have no way of knowing which culture is doing what. Each Vital product focuses on a single well-researched culture so you know exactly what you are getting, why it is there, and what the published research shows it supports. The exception is Sedona, which uses a clinically-tested two-culture combination developed and studied as a unit.
Every jar is labeled with a best used by date — 21 days from fermentation. This is the window during which the live cultures are at their most active. The product is safe to consume after this date, but the cultures will have declined. We recommend consuming each jar within the window for the best results. Stored at 34–38°F, the product holds its quality well throughout the 21-day period.
No. Every Vital product contains our unique fresh milk blend, a small amount of prebiotic fiber, and the specific probiotic culture — nothing else. No added sugars, no artificial flavors, no stabilizers, no thickeners, no preservatives. The tang you taste is from the lactic acid produced naturally during fermentation. We culture it pure so that you can make it yours — adding whatever you want to the jar without competing ingredients already in it.
Locally. We source from nearby dairy farmers wherever possible — local milk means a shorter cold chain and a fresher foundation for fermentation. We do not use ultra-pasteurized milk — the high-heat process affects fermentation quality and texture. We work with conventionally pasteurized milk, the minimum thermal treatment required for safety and nothing more.
How does delivery work?
We deliver locally — made locally, delivered locally by a Vital Neighbor who lives in your community. We are building our delivery network carefully, expanding to new areas when we have a Vital Neighbor ready to serve them well. Tyler will have the most current information on delivery availability in your area. If we haven't reached you yet, register your zip code on our Expand My Area page and you'll hear from us first.
Your order is delivered by a Vital Neighbor — a real person who lives in your community, knows the product, and chose this work because it matters to them. They are not a courier or a gig worker. They are compensated fairly, trained carefully, and responsible for maintaining the cold chain from our kitchen to your door. The delivery is part of the product.
Your Vital Neighbor will be in touch to coordinate delivery timing. We do not leave jars on doorsteps unattended — live cultures need to stay cold, and we maintain the cold chain all the way to your hands. If you are not going to be home, let us know and we will find a time that works.
We do not accept tips. This is a deliberate policy, not false modesty. Tips create inequity between Vital Neighbors depending on where they deliver, and we want every Vital Neighbor to be compensated fairly regardless of their route. If you want to show appreciation, the best thing you can do is tell someone about Vital Yogurts.
Return your empty jars at your next delivery for a $2 credit per jar. We wash them, sanitize them, and use them again. Glass does not leach, does not absorb flavor, and does not add to a landfill. Returning jars is the preferred option — but if a jar breaks or gets lost, that is fine too. We would rather you not stress about it.
If you try Vital for 30 days and it is not right for you, we will make it right. This guarantee applies to The Vital Four bundle — four cultures over a full month — because 30 days is the minimum period on which we are confident enough to stand behind the experience. If you are unsatisfied for any reason, reach out through Tyler or our contact page and we will work it out.
Getting the most from Vital.
Four to eight ounces daily is the general range for most adults. Timing matters less than consistency — morning, alongside a meal, or evening all work. Start with two to four ounces in the first week while your gut adjusts, then build to your regular amount. The one variable that consistently determines results is daily consumption over weeks and months.
Temporary bloating or mild digestive awareness in the first few days is normal and expected — it is a sign that a significant number of live organisms are arriving in a microbiome that has grown quieter over time. This typically resolves within three to five days. Start with a smaller serving to give your gut time to adjust. If discomfort persists beyond a week or is severe, speak with your doctor before continuing.
Some of the most significant benefits of daily probiotic consumption produce no felt experience at all. Not feeling something dramatic in the first two weeks is expected. Our Understanding Your Results page covers what to look for, on what timeline, and how to distinguish the silent benefits from the felt ones.
Yes — the cultures in the Vital line address different mechanisms and can be used together. However, we strongly recommend starting with one culture for at least 30 days before adding a second. One culture for 30 days gives you a clear picture of what it contributes. Our Pairing & Combining page covers which cultures work particularly well together and why.
Missing a day occasionally does not undo what you have built. What matters is the overall pattern — daily consumption over weeks and months, not perfection on any given day. The answer to a missed day is simply the next day.
You can use it in cooking but heat above 115°F kills the live cultures. The flavor survives — the probiotic benefit does not. Eat your daily serving cold, and use a separate portion for cooking. It works well stirred into sauces at the end of cooking (after the heat is off), as a base for dressings, or alongside roasted vegetables.

A Vital Neighbor is someone who lives in the community they serve and hand-delivers Vital Yogurts products to customers in their area. This is not a gig delivery role. Vital Neighbors are trained, compensated fairly, and responsible for maintaining the care and quality of every jar from our kitchen to the customer's door. They are the most important part of what makes Vital Yogurts different from any other yogurt company.
Vital Neighbors earn $5 per delivery plus 10% of the value of every jar they deliver. There are no tips. There is also a Circle Pool — a quarterly distribution shared equally among qualifying Vital Neighbors based on tenure and delivery volume. We are transparent about compensation because we believe you should know how the people who bring your food are paid.
Applications are handled through vitalneighbors.com. We review applications carefully — we are looking for people who genuinely care about their community and want to be part of something that means something. We hire slowly and carefully, in line with our principle of growing only as fast as our values allow.
